Understanding Supported Targets

A target is an executable file that you examine with Intel Advisor tools.

Intel Advisor supports targets:

  • Developed to run on Windows* operating systems in the Microsoft Visual Studio 201n development environment (see the release notes for supported software). Intel Advisor tools use the same user interface as the Visual Studio* debugger for specifying the command line, arguments, and working directory - the Startup Project options.

  • Developed to run on the Windows* or Linux* operating systems listed in the Release Notes.

  • That use C/C++, Fortran, or C# code for the portions that will run in parallel.

The target executable must contain source symbol table debug information, so the tool can provide source line correlation and viewing sources. The build requirements are described in the help topic Build Settings for each language.

When using Visual Studio, you specify the target by opening a solution and selecting the startup project.

When using the Intel Advisor GUI, specify project properties for the target in the Project Properties dialog box. You can specify a target executable or a script file as the Application. If you specify a script file for the Correctness tool, specify the target executable in the Child Application field (see Specifying Project Properties Using the Intel Advisor GUI).
