Thousands of developers made the trek to San Francisco on March 30 – April 1st for this anticipated Microsoft* annual event, where the company showed the latest software tools and technologies through keynotes, technical sessions, demos, and fun activities such as parties and coding contests. Intel® participated at the event with our software developer program, Intel® Software Developer Zone leading the way with demos and announcements.
Our demo booth signage described the program at a high level through the tagline “Tools. Community. Knowledge”. This highlighted the many tools, code samples, technical articles, tutorials, and product support available through the website. But we also made sure to mention the face to face opportunities with our experts and fellow developers at webinars, hackathons, and roadshows. At the booth we did a detailed demo on the XDK tool that allowed developers to write once and publish apps for Windows*, iOS*, and Android* stores. Also included in the free download are integrated design, debug, and build tools. The thousands of visitors in the booth raised valid questions ranging from Windows* related topics to Computer Vision and Robotics.

An exciting activity at the booth and the each day’s end was the drawing for the Dell* Venue 8 Pro Tablet. The crowd started gathering and the numbers would reach a peak just right before the drawing time. With our entertaining emcees leading the way, the drawing was always a fun moment. This is the only event (as far as I can recall) where the first person drawn was always present to claim their prizes!
Microsoft and Intel Collaborating to Provide Intel® IoT Developer Tools for Edge to Cloud
On Day 2 Microsoft announced in their keynote that they are collaborating with Intel to provide professional developers with a complete set of IoT development tools supporting edge to cloud. The Intel® IoT Developer Kit containing the Intel® Edison board is now certified to work with Microsoft Azure cloud services. To add sizzle to the announcement and to jumpstart developers with prototyping Intel distributed 200 kits at the event, which were eagerly snapped up by lucky developers who attended the Microsoft Azure tech session. Eat, Meet, and Greet at the Intel® Tools Reception
Many developers joined us that night at a neighborhood bar called the Thirsty Bear to get up close and personal with several of our tools experts, network with fellow developers, or just to enjoy good food and drink. The informal event was well attended and judging from the smiles and all-around lively conversation – was quite a success. We received valuable insight from our customers and so this is something that we hope to replicate in future Build events.
Before we knew it, it was Day 3 and after the final drawing we were off to packing up our gear and heading out back home to recharge for the next developer event. The event was a success as we got the chance to spread the word about the “goodness” within our program. Developers in turn showed their interest and appreciation for the many offerings within the Intel® Software Developer Zone . We reminded them to subscribe to our newsletter or to follow us in our social media channels. And we look forward to connecting with all of you online or in person at the next event!
